ATCteen Improv Team FUSAI
We’re so proud of ATCteen improv team FUSAI (or the Future Underground Society of Arizona Improv) for performing two shows in February! Earlier this month, they performed in Unscrewed Theater’s Sunday Smashup alongside other teams.
They performed a monoscene for the first time, doing one long scene in one location, and performer Oskar participated in the jam, doing a scene with a great scene with a performer from another team! Then, this past Sunday, they performed at InterCity improv, headlining their long form improv jam. They performed the complex 4321 for the first time, performing 4 scenes then 3 then 2 then 1 based on audience votes. And performers Chaya, Roark, and Oskar performed in the jam, doing ten minutes of long form improv with InterCity regulars! FUSAI was both InterCity’s first teen team and first Arizona team!
For two of our core FUSAI members, Roark and Chaya these two performances were there last improv shows, as they are aging out of the program soon!
Roark says, “Learning improv with ATC Teen has been such an amazing experience, it’s had such a great impact on my my acting outside of improv, and even my everyday life as well. After doing improv with ATC for the past two and a half years it’s pretty crazy to realize I’ve performed my last show with this team, but I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned and excited for all the improv my future holds.”
Chaya says, “My favorite quote about improv is: “when in doubt heighten it out”. Something that I’ve learned while doing scenes is to not be afraid to come in with the craziest idea, because no matter what you’ll have someone there to play along with you. Now this last show may or may not have been my last with the team, but if it is I would have to say it has been a pleasure being a part of this wonderful group of people, and being able to not only grow beside them, but most importantly being able to make lifelong friends. With that said, while I was performing my potential last show with them I felt a burst of energy and excitement, because of how many shows we’ve been through together, as well as knowing how well prepared we were for those shows gave me a sense of light. I also felt a little disheartened knowing that this might be coming down to the end for me with this amazing team, but I certainly did have the time of my life with them. ”
We are so proud of Roark, Chaya and all of Team FUSAI for the recent performances!
